Goofy vs Regular Graffiti Contest by Henxs & MTN 94
Starting of in a lovely sunshine on 10:00 Saturday-morning, 5 teams competed against each other outside the Area51 Skatepark, while inside the Goofy vs Regular was going on. With the theme: Goofy vs Regular in the back of their heads. Henxs lined out the paint outside and the guys picked 20 cans of the new MTN 94 spray cans and started doing their thing.
Stakes were high: The writers who placed first would take home 50 “MTN 94” spray cans and will leave the Area51 dressed in Etnies: laced from head till toe. Also they receive the EA Skate2 Game. 2nd and 3rd place receive 20 and 10 “MTN 94” cans and also a clothing package from Etnies.
Different styles, different influences and different backgrounds brought all the passing public a real gem for the eye. Lastplak from Rotterdam finished as 3rd with their street-art style work: crazy characters and fresh letters. The judges really appreciated their own input to the theme. In 2nd place a big yellow screaming piece by the Zombie-team, from Utrecht. They came in late, but still managed to deliver a great work. Judges Mickey and Bomb described it as “a real classic graffiti burner piece with banging colors”.
And 1st place: the “Clowns From Hell”! Oldskool writers SelOne & Dr. Chess 87 pulled off crazy filled pieces. Behind the wild fill-ins there was a deeper philosophy. By just writing their own names, they made it a personal piece, but they both met the theme: Goofy vs Regular in being each others exact opposites. One has cold colored fill-ins and a busy flowing background while the other stays warm and abstract. Sel and Chess meet in the middle by swapping out the fill-in of one letter. Bomb & Mickey agreed: “they hit the theme in a very personal way, while still painting graffiti”
Last but sure not least to mention they big effort put in by TUV crew from Amsterdam and the crew put together by Boomerang.
With big smiling faces and a real nice wall done it was an event to remember.
